Episode 41: Let’s Build a List – Necrons

We kick off a new series this episode, taking you through listbuilding from concept to completion, with all the internal debates and justification inbetween. For our first listbuilding exercise, we’re taking a look at one of the big players in the current tourney scene, the Necrons. Our challenge: build a list that should perform reasonably well, be fun to play, highlight some of the key Necron units, and not be just another Cron Air list – and do it all in 1500 points. Are our boys up to the task? Take a listen to find out. Also, hobby progress, and a recap of our recent monthly tournament!

Not another Cron Air list… it Looks like you failed that one with both lists.
I am not angry however   I am disappointed.

That comes off more negative than I want it to…
I like the show a lot however I play necrons and every net list is Cron Air
and both lists have two flyer’s. there are a number of builds that wouldn’t get you cussed out for using. that would work with your challenge: to build a list that should perform reasonably well, be fun to play, highlight some of the key Necron units, and not be just another Cron Air list.

Two flyers does not Cron Air make. To me, “Cron Air” means trying to cram as many X-Scythes into the list as possible, and we purposefully avoided that. You’ll note that there are no Doom Scythes in the list, for example, or that we didn’t take smaller troop squads to fit in more Night Scythes. What we did want to do, as you pointed out, was highlight key Necron units, and I’d say that their flyers definitely qualify as “key units” these days.

Just because there ARE Cron Air lists, doesn’t mean a casual list can NEVER have a flyer in it.

        That’s how the terrorists win.

Haha, just kidding. But seriously, stop being so serious. 🙂
